Avi's picI am a senior lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. My work addresses social, political and ethical aspects of surveillance, with particular attention to the use of biometrics in Israel. My most recent works deal with parental surveillance of preadolescents as well as covid-19-motivated state surveillance in Israel. I am also interested in new media use by LGBTQ people, including gay youth, transgender people, and senior gay men. I have published my research in leading communication journals, including the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Media Psychology, Journalism Studies, International Journal of Communication, Ethics and Information Technology, and others. I received my Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Haifa and completed postdoctoral studies at the Information Society Project at Yale University (2017-8).
