Are you sure?
The most outrageous things in the world have always been done by people
who were 100% sure they were right. Most of the things extremists have
done have brought about just the opposite of what they wanted to achieve.
Most of the things people have done have brought about results that were
not exactly what they had in mind, because they didn't bother to look at
the whole picture, or because there were factors they couldn't foresee.
No one can see the whole picture with all the exceptional cases and all
the extraordinary situations that might occur. That's the reason why no
rule can always be correct. One and one need not be two. It can be 11 or
binary ten.
If you are sure you are right, remember there is always a small
probability that you might be wrong. The only thing you can do right is
try to think what other people might feel and do your best not to do unto
them what you would not like them to do unto you (yes, old Hillel's maxim).
That's not much but that's the only rule that I feel quite
confident with.
