Yoav was born in 1968 and grew up kibbutz Afikim in the Jordan valley. He studied physics and mathematics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and received his B.Sc. in 1995. Yoav completed his M.Sc in physics in 1997, and then moved to Tel-Aviv to receive his Ph.D in the field of theoretical polymer physics in 2001. From 2001 till 2005 he conducted postdoctoral research with Ludwik Leibler in ESPCI, Paris (block-copolymer orientation, phase-separation in liquid mixtures), with Pierre-Gilles de Gennes in Collége de France (ferr-nematics, bacteria pattern-formation, polymer rheology) and with Jean-François Joanny and Jacques Prost in Intitut Curie (polymer brush, micelle conformation). He joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ben-Gurion University as a senior lecturer in 2005.
